Day 2 - May 20/17 at Grundy Lake Prov Park
Posting this on Sunday May 21 at Tim Hortons in WAWA
Up at 7; ablutions, breakfast and showers; on the road about 9:30 am. Stopped early to get gas, but the price was too high, so we got a bit and stopped again later west of Sudbury. Couldn’t get back on hwy 17 west (construction) so continued on a delightful drive on the old Hwy 17. Stopped for lunch at Serpent River - by mistake ended up on Reserve land south of the river instead of the designated picnic area. Great spot with a falls view - and lots of black flies!!!! Motored on through Sault Ste Marie, taking turns driving and napping. Arrived at Agawa Bay Campground in Lake Superior Prov Park at about 6pm. Had a great curried chicken and rice supper (pre-prepared), then a walk on the lakeshore, then a campfire, and now to bed. No satellite service here, so planning to post this in the morning in Wawa.
At French River - a major east-west 'canoe highway'
Who knew? - That "Sneaky Pete" (Pierre Radisson)
was the one who started the Hudson Bay Company???
You can't see it, but Nancy is wearing her Canadian Canoe Museum pin!!
Falls where the Trans-Canada Highway commemorative plaque is. |
Some typical topography along the North Shore of Lake Superior
Above and below - at the Alona Bay lookout
(Michael remembers stopping here
on his motorcycle pilgrimage in 2014!)
At Alona Bay also
Delicious curried chicken and rice tastes even better with travelling Mothers' Day bouquet (thanks Jamie Chapple!!) |
Our first campfire (although it is only 9degrees C!) |
