Day 6 - Wednesday May 25/17
Well, it was a quiet day on the “Oh the Places We’ll Go - West” trek.
Forgot to mention yesterday that we have crossed into the Central Daylight Savings Time Zone!!
We had a relaxed morning in Quetico Provincial Park; up later then usual, then showers, and then a bacon, eggs and toast breakfast ‘al fresco’ overlooking the lake from our front yard!
Michael checked out the fresh water tank and determined that the tank was completely empty of water - even though we thought we’d been keeping it topped up. We filled it at the fresh water station before leaving the park, and checked it again under the trailer, and it did not seem to be leaking anywhere.
We left the park at about 11:30am, and drove in beautiful sunshine. Stopped for a coffee and cookie break at a scenic outlook at the beginning of Rainy Lake. Then stopped in Fort Francis where we gassed up and got a few groceries.
The topography changed considerably as we headed west from Fort Francis - flatter, less rocky outcrops, straight roads and lots of farms.
We turned north towards Kenora, and arrived at Caliper Lake Provincial Park (now operated by the municipality) just before 4pm. Got settled on a campsite, had a snack and a nap! Then burgers for supper, and a great 2km, 40 minute walk along the lakeshore and around the camp roads.
We are running at about 80-90km/hr most times; with stops, averaging 60-70km/hr over the course of the day. It is the kind of traveling pace were envisioning - stopping at many scenic outlooks, and ALL historic plaques!! (But there weren’t any plaques today!)
Having a quiet evening and to bed early.
