Day 71 - Friday July 28
(Written on Monday August 7th; Posted on Monday August 14th at Watson Lake, Yukon Territory)
Another day of touring today - this time driving, to the Exit Glacier, another of the glaciers in Glacier National Park. It rained overnight, and was still spitting rain in the morning, and we wondered if we would have good weather for walking the trail to Exit Glacier. We contemplated doing the laundry instead, but the rain cleared, and so we stayed with Plan A, and got to the Exit Glacier Park by about 11:30am, after breakfast and making wraps for a picnic lunch.
We looked around the displays at the Park Visitor Centre briefly, and then hiked the 2-mile (return) trail up to the glacier’s edge. We got great views of the glacier, right up close (but it was very busy - lots of people; sort of like Morraine Lake).Signs along the trail, and a display (photo), showed where the toe of the glacier had been over the past 150 years or so, and how it has receded (we noted to ourselves that with the receding of the glacier over the past 10 years or so, they will soon need to extend the trail further, and move the ‘edge of the glacier lookout’ closer to the glacier itself) (photos)

The sign marking the end of  the glacier just 7 years ago.

We sat at a picnic table to have lunch, but it started to rain, so we finished our lunch in the truck. After leaving the national park we went into Seward, and got the propane tank filled and gassed up the truck. Back to the trailer to read, rest and nap. At 5:15 we started two loads of laundry at the campground. Nancy wrote blog posts, and Michael did odd jobs at the trailer.
Supper was barbecued lamb kebabs, mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts, and then off to bed again, to be ready for a day of travel tomorrow.
